Using a combination of options, including active units and passive packaging, PDQ Cold Call are able to ensure your consignment reaches its final destination, on time, at temperature and in perfect condition.

PDQ Targets Growth

A thriving Wirral-based specialist courier company has been given a £250,000 cash boost to enhance its state-of-the-art fleet.

PDQ, which prides itself on offering a ‘white glove service’ to blue chip companies, transports consignments worth more than £300m every year throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe.

With clients using their temperature controlled, time sensitive service to convey everything from pathology samples and pharmaceuticals, to hazardous materials, many of their packages are priceless and cannot be replaced.

Company directors Brian and Amanda Brennan have already invested £300,000 in the past 12 months into IT systems, training, vehicles and tracking technology.

PDQ operates from its new Bromborough premises, in addition to bases in Alderley Edge, High Wycombe and Cork.

In long term plans, the firm hopes to further expand its fleet, and Barclays Bank has offered the company a facility of a quarter of a million pounds for the investment programme.

Gary Fletcher, Barclays corporate relationship manager, said: “This is a significant investment in a competitive market and paints a very bright future for the business.

“By working closely and really understanding the business, Barclays has been able to support PDQ Specialist Couriers Services financially and professionally throughout the expansion.

“We have a long standing relationship with the company and wish to continue to work in partnership to support their strategic growth plans.”

PDQ was launched in 1998 when the directors identified a gap in the market for temperature-controlled courier services.

Set up with one van, the company now employs a skilled team of 30, with specialist drivers.

The fleet includes small vans through to 18 tonne vehicles, costing up to £120,000, and in addition to location and temperature tracking, provide everything from panic alarms and generators, to key-out systems which enable refrigeration to keep running.

PDQ’s business development manager Luke Devlin said: “PDQ is bucking the industry trend by going from strength to strength.

“For instance, if there is a national crisis for Ebola, we are accredited to provide the transport for the medication and samples for research purposes and our clients are some of the biggest names in medicine, undertaking trials and treatment.

“Our short term goal is to continue to grow some of our key markets, including the pharmaceutical industry and the Irish trade, without compromising our high standard of service – we have never lost one of our consignments in 15 years.”

Opening of Northampton Depot

PDQ Couriers has continued their growth with the opening of a strategic depot in Northampton. The depot possesses its own team of drivers and vehicles, with the ability to handle the overnight storage of temperature-critical consignments.

Luke Devlin, Business Development Manager at PDQ Specialist Couriers, commented “the opening of a depot in the Midlands was the next logical step. With such a large proportion of our customer base located in the Midlands, it made sense to service them from a more local location.”

Over the coming months, we are looking at expanding our network of depots across the UK, with a view of opening our first dedicated location in Mainland Europe over the next 12 months.
